An Act to amend the Civil List Act 1968

(4 April 1977

BE IT ENACTED by the Legislative Assembly of the Cook Islands in Session assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

1. Short Title and Commencement

(1) This Act may be cited as the Civil List Amendment Act 1977 and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Civil List Act 1968 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).

(2) This Act shall be deemed to have come into force on the first day of April 1975.

2. Salary and allowance of Premier

Section 4 of the Principal Act (as amended by the Civil List Amendment Act 1973) is hereby amended by -

(a) Omitting from paragraph (a) the word "eight" and substituting the word "fourteen";
(b) Omitting from paragraph (b) the words "Two thousand" and substituting the words "Four thousand".

3. Salaries and allowances of Ministers

Section 5 of the Principal Act (as amended by the Civil List Amendment Act 1973) is hereby amended by -

(a) Omitting from paragraph (a) the words "six thousand five hundred" and substituting the words "ten thousand";
(b) Omitting from paragraph (b) the words "one thousand five hundred" and substituting the words "three thousand".

4. Travelling allowances and expenses of the Premier, Deputies to the Premier and Ministers

Subsection (1) of Section 7 of the principal Act is hereby amended by -

(a) Omitting the words "each Minister (including the Premier)" and substituting the words "the Premier, any Deputy to the Premier, and any Minister";
(b) Omitting from paragraph (a) the words "three dollars and fifty cents" and substituting the words "seven dollars".

5. Salary and allowance of Speaker

Subsection (1) of section 10 of the principal Act (as amended by section 2 of the Civil List Amendment Act 1975) is hereby amended by -

(a) Omitting from paragraph (a) the words "six" and substituting the word "nine";
(b) Omitting from paragraph (b) the words "one thousand" and substituting the words "two thousand".

6. Salaries of Members

Section 13 of the principal Act (as amended by the Civil List Amendment Act 1973) is hereby amended by

(a) Omitting the words "two thousand" and substituting the words "four thousand".
(b) Repealing the proviso.

7. Allowances of Members

Section 14 of the principal Act (as amended by section 7 of the Civil List Amendment Act 1973) is hereby amended by omitting the words "five hundred dollars" and substituting the words "one thousand dollars".

8. Section repealed

Section 15 of the principal Act is hereby repealed.

9. Boarding allowance

Section 16 of the principal Act is hereby amended by omitting the words "two dollars and twentyfive cents" and substituting the words "four dollars and fifty cents".

10. Travelling allowances and expenses of members visiting constituencies

Section 17 of the principal Act is hereby amended by -

(a) Omitting from subsection (2) the words "two dollars and twentyfive cents" and substituting the words "five dollars";
(b) Adding a new subsection as follows:

• "(4) The member making such visits shall be entitled to be accompanied by his wife at Government expense."

11. Travelling allowances and expenses of members travelling within the Cook Islands on public service

Section 18 of the principal Act is hereby amended by omitting from the proviso the words "two dollars and twentyfive cents" and substituting the words "four dollars and fifty cents".

12. Salaries and allowances of Deputies to Premier

Section 20 I of the principal Act (as inserted by section 3 of the Civil List Amendment Act 1975) is hereby amended by

(a) Omitting from subparagraph (a) the words "six thousand five hundred" and substituting the words "ten thousand";
(b) Omitting from subparagraph (b) the words "one thousand five hundred" and substituting the words "three thousand".
