An Act to amend the Civil List Act 1984
(25 March 1997
BE IT ENACTED by the Parliament of the Cook Islands in Session assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
(1) This Act may be cited as the Civil List Amendment Act 1997 and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Civil List Act 1984 (hereinafter referred to as "the principal Act").
(2) This Act shall come into force on the 1st day of July 1997.
Section 3 of the principal Act is amended by:
(a) adding the following definition:
- " "Opposition" means that political party opposed to Government which has the greatest number of Members";
(b) deleting the definition of "Leader of the Opposition" and substituting the following new definition:
- "Leader of the Opposition" means either:
- (i) the Member who commands the support of the majority of Members in the Opposition, or
- (ii) the Member who commands the support of the majority of the Members opposed to Government."
