An Act to amend the Gaming Act 1967

BE IT ENACTED by the Parliament of the Cook Islands in Session assembled, and by the authority of the same as follows:

1. Title and commencement

(1) This Act may be cited as the Gaming Amendment Act 1997 and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Gaming Act 1967 ("hereinafter referred to as "the principal Act").

(2) This Act shall come into force on the day it is assented to by the Queen's Representative.

2. Permit and licences to dispose of property by lottery

Section 16 of the principal Act is hereby amended in subsections (1) and (3) -

(a) by deleting the word "fifty" and substituting the words "two hundred";
(b) by deleting the word "twenty" and substituting the word "eighty".

3. Housie

The principal Act is further amended by repealing section 21 and substituting the following:

"21. Housie - Where any organisation or class of organisation desires to conduct the game commonly known as Housie, by whatever name it is called, (whether or not the game is played on any premises owned or occupied by the organisation) the Commissioner of Police or any other person authorised by the Minister to do so may, if he thinks fit, on application being made to him in writing by or on behalf of that organisation, grant a licence authorising the game upon and subject to such conditions and restrictions as the person granting the licence may impose."

This Act is administered by the Police Department
