An Act to amend the Local Government Act 1966
(28 February 1972
BE IT ENACTED by the Legislative Assembly of the Cook Islands in Session assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
This Act may be cited as the Local Government Amendment Act 1971-72 and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Local Government Act 1966 (hereinafter referred to as the "principal Act").
Section 5 of the principal Act is hereby amended by repealing subsection (1) and substituting the following new subsection:
"(1) The Rarotonga Island Council shall consist of all the members of the District Councils on Rarotonga constituted by section 41 of this Act".
The principal Act is hereby further amended by repealing section 29.
Section 41 of the principal Act is hereby amended by -
(a) Repealing paragraphs (b) and (c) and substituting the following new paragraphs:
- "(b) In the case of the Takitumu District three elected members:
- (c) In the case of the Te-Au-O-Tonga District four elected members:
- (d) In the case of the Puaikura District three elected members."
