AN ORDINANCE

TO MAKE PROVISION FOR THE RECOGNITION OF COIN OF THE GILBERT ISLANDS ISSUED UNDER THE COINAGE ORDINANCE (NO. 15 OF 1975) AS LEGAL TENDER IN ADDITION TO COIN WHICH IS LEGAL TENDER BY VIRTUE OF ITS STATUS AS SUCH IN THE COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA, AND TO MAKE PROVISION CONSEQUENTIAL THEREON AND IN CONNECTION THEREWITH BY AMENDMENT TO THE CURRENCY ORDINANCE (CHAPTER 50 OF THE LAWS).

ENACTED by the Governor with the advice and consent of the House of Assembly:-

Short title and commencement

1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Currency (Legal Tender of Coinage) (Amendment) Ordinance 1979, and shall come into operation on such date as the Minister may by notice in the Gazette appoint.

Interpretation No. 15 of 1975

2. This Ordinance shall be read and construed as one with the Coinage Ordinance.

Amendment of section 3(2) of CAP. 50

(1) Section 3 of the Currency Ordinance is amended in sub-section (2):

(a) by inserting after the words "the Commonwealth of Australia", the words "or by virtue of regulations made by the Commissioner of Currency under the Coinage Ordinance 1975";

(b) by inserting after the words "the said Commonwealth", the words "or by virtue of the said regulations".

(2) Section 3 of the Currency Ordinance is amended in sub-section (3)(a) by inserting after the words "as the least current weight of such coin", the words "under the said regulations or".

This printed impression has been carefully examined by me with the Bill which passed the House of Assembly on the 26th day of April 1979 and is found by me to be a true and correctly printed copy of the said Bill.
