WORKMEN'S COMPENSATION (AMENDMENT) ACT
EXPLANATORY MEMORANDUM
The main purpose of this Act is to amend sections 6 and 7 of the Workmen’s Compensation Ordinance (Cap. 102) to increase the
compensation payable in cases where death results and in cases of permanent total incapacity.
This increase is necessary due to the inflation and increase in the cost of living since the ordinance came into force.
The amendment includes the Republic and it will particularly benefit Kiribati seamen and their dependents whose insurance benefits
are linked to the benefits under the Workmen’s Compensation Ordinance.
Hon. Remuera Tateraka MP
Minister of Commerce Industry & Employment
