§901. Short title.
This Chapter may be cited as the "Marshall Islands Resident Representative Act 1986". [P.L. 1986-36, §1.]
§902. Establishment of a Representative Office.
There shall be established by the Republic, for better understanding and the efficient implementation of the Compact of Free Association and for maintenance of greater relations, a Representative Office in the United States of America which shall be situated in Washington, D.C. [P.L. 1986-36, §2.]
§903. Appointment and compensation of a Resident Representative.
(1) The Cabinet may, in terms of Article V, Section 1 (3)(d) of the Constitution of the Marshall Islands, and on the recommendation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, appoint a Resident Representative as the head of the Office for a term of three (3) years, subject to the approval of the Nitijela signified by resolution.
(2) The compensation of the Resident Representative in accordance with Article VII, Section 1(4) of the Constitution of the Marshall Islands, shall be $30,000 per annum. In addition to the compensation referred to in this Section he shall be entitled to an overseas allowance as determined by the Cabinet on the recommendation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs. §904. Staff of the Office.
There shall be, in addition to the Resident Representative, an Assistant Representative and an Administrative Officer/Secretary, and such other officers and servants as may be appointed to the Office by the Public Service Commission. [P.L. 1986-36, §4.]
