An Ordinance to prohibit the sale of dry coconuts in Niue
(21 May 1918)
1. Short Title – This Ordinance may be cited as the Niue Sale of Coconuts Prohibition Ordinance 1918.
2. Consent required to buy, sell or barter coconuts – Except with the consent of the Resident Commissioner, no person shall buy, sell or barter any coconuts save and except green
coconuts for drinking purposes.
3. No restriction on sale to vessels – Nothing in this Ordinance shall restrict the sale or supply of either green or dry coconuts to vessels desiring to obtain
same and such nuts may lawfully be sold or supplied by either [Niueans] or Europeans to any vessel visiting Niue.
[The word "Niueans" was substituted for the word "Natives" by the Niue Act 1966.]
4. Offence b Niuean – Any [Niuean] contravening the provisions of this Ordinance is liable to a fine not exceeding three pounds (£3).
