INDEPENDENT STATE OF PAPUA NEW GUINEA.
AN ACT
entitled
Leaders (Benefits) Act 1987,
Being an Act, as authorized by Section 5 of the Organic Law on the Duties and Responsibilities of Leadership, to provide for the acceptance of a benefit by a leader, and for related purposes,
MADE by the National Parliament to be deemed to have come into operation on 1 January 1979.
In this Act, unless the contrary intention appears–
“benefit” means the difference between the market value of a dwelling-house that is owned by the state and the actual purchase price paid to the State by a leader who has purchased that dwelling-house from the State;
[1]“leader” means–
(a) a person listed under Section 26 (application of Division 2) of the Constitution; and
(b) the Governor-General.
The Head of State, acting on advice, may, by notice in the National Gazette, declare that a leader may accept a benefit from the State.
