BIRTHS, DEATHS AND MARRIAGES (AMENDMENT) ACT 1989

AN ACT
TO AMEND THE BIRTHS, DEATHS AND MARRIAGES REGISTRATION ACT

BE IT ENACTED by the King and Legislative Assembly of Tonga in the Legislature of the Kingdom as follows:

1. (1) This Act may be cited as the Births, Deaths and Marriages Registration (Amendment) Act 1989.

(2) The Births, Deaths and Marriages Registration Act, as amended, is in this Act referred to as the Principal Act.

2. Section 4 of the Principal Act is deleted and replaced by the following:

"4. The Registrar General may make regulations prescribing all matters which by this Act are required or permitted to be prescribed, or which axe necessary or convenient to be prescribed for carrying out or giving effect to this Act."

3. Section 8 of the Principal Act is amended:

(a) by numbering that provision as subsection (1); and

(b) by inserting the following as subsection (2);

"(2) Notwithstanding the residential requirements provided under subsection (1) of this section, the Registrar General may grant a special licence to marry where at least one of the applicants has an established link with the Kingdom."
