FORESTRY (RESTRICTION ON THE FELLING OF SANDALWOOD)
Order 84 of 1999
An Order to restrict the felling of sandalwood (Santalum austro-caledonicum).
1. Ban on the felling of sandalwood (Santalum austro-caledonicum) on the islands of Efate and Aniwa
The felling of the species of tree technically known as Santalum austro-caledonicum or otherwise commonly known as sandalwood is hereby
prohibited on the islands of Efate and Aniwa for a period of 10 years commencing from the date of this Order.
2. Restriction of the exploitation of sandalwood (Santalum austro-caledonicum) throughout Vanuatu
No person shall fell a sandalwood tree for sale that is less than 15 centimeters diameter measured over bark on the main stem at a
point 50 centimeters above the ground.
3. Offences
Any person who contravenes or fails to comply with this Order shall be guilty of an offence punishable by a fine not exceeding VT
50,000.
